Now that I have a little free time before going back to work after the holidays, I’m going to make a serious effort to convert a website I maintain for my condo association. Joomla was OK, but I found I liked WordPress better. A search found the Joomla / Mambo to WordPress 2.5 migration wizard by Jeremiah Hester. Since WordPress is now at version 2.7, his migration wizard will probably require a little tweaking.

Welcome to my blog. I initially tried to set up a site here with PHP-Nuke, but it kept getting hacked by idiots with more time on their hands than brains in their heads. I tried Joomla with another site I run and although it seems more secure, it was hard to include pictures in the posts.

In discussions with members of a third site I run, Joomla was discarded as an option. I then tried WordPress on that site and so far most seem pleased with the result. One dissenter said we should just use static HTML. Although that is the most secure, I just don’t have the time to maintain a site like that.

WordPress isn’t perfect, but a couple of plugins gets it pretty close. Close enough that I’m going to use it for my personal site.
